A former Nazi concentration camp guard accused of lying on a petition for naturalization was deported to Romania, authorities said in Philadelphia.
Nikolaus Schiffer, 83, left Monday night on a flight from New York, said Niki Edwards, an Immigration and Naturalization Service spokeswoman in Philadelphia.
Schiffer is accused of trying to conceal service in the Waffen SS Death’s Head Battalions, which ran Hitler’s concentration camps, according to the Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations.
Schiffer, who acknowledged serving as a guard at concentration camps, has denied having witnessed beatings or deaths in the camps.
