Sex Pistols too punk for hall of fame?

Three bands spawned during the late-’70s punk-rock explosion in England will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, but not the band that ignited that explosion -- the Sex Pistols.
The Police, the Clash and Elvis Costello & the Attractions made it into the hall in the first year they became eligible for membership (that is, 25 years after the release of their first record), along with Southern California blue-eyed soul duo the Righteous Brothers and Australian hard-rock band AC/DC.
The 18th-annual induction ceremony will be held March 10 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.
Besides the Sex Pistols, who were eligible for the second year, acts on the final ballot included Patti Smith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, ABBA, Steve Winwood, MC5, Kraftwerk, Chic and the Dells.
