College Football Not Just a Local Story

Kansas State 64, Kansas 0. Coach Bill Snyder of Kansas State, who has a history of scheduling unrated and overmatched teams -- Western Kentucky, Louisiana Monroe, Eastern Illinois -- and beating them as badly as he can, epitomizes college football today. Gone is the very nature of athletics and good sportsmanship, which has succumbed to the polls and the BCS. It’s so unfortunate, but it seems to be working.

After three of the top college teams lose to lesser opponents, and Miami needs four quarters to beat Rutgers (Rutgers!) while Ohio State handily dispatches Minnesota, your paper calls the Buckeyes “overrated.” This is the same Buckeye team that is undefeated, hasn’t given up a point in the second half of the last four games and, in case you forgot, pasted Washington State, the top team in the Pac-10, in September.
Can they finish? Time will tell, but at this point Ohio State has done everything necessary to have earned the right to be where it’s at.
Buckeyes overrated? You guys are overrated. Does the Enquirer have a sports section?
