From Times Wire Reports
Afghanistan’s Central Bank extended by a month its deadline for swapping old bank notes for new ones to give people time to join in its ambitious new currency program.
The country is introducing new bank notes, lopping three zeros off the old afghani, which now trades at 72,000 to the dollar. But the transition has been beset by logistical problems, including disposal of the millions of old bills.
The swap will now end Jan. 2 instead of Dec. 4.
