Enron Examiner Seeks Rating-Firm Papers
Enron Corp.’s court-appointed bankruptcy examiner asked a judge for power to subpoena evidence from Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s Corp. and Fitch Inc., all of which rated the company’s credit.
The examiner, Neal Batson, seeks documents about transactions involving Enron and the off-the-books special-purpose entities used to hide debt.
Batson also wants any analyses of Enron asset transfers and communications between the rating companies and Enron lawyers.
Bankruptcy Judge Arthur J. Gonzalez scheduled a hearing for April 25 in New York on Batson’s request. The rating firms declined to comment on the request.
