Davis Plan Undermines State Child Care Centers

“Child-Care Centers at Risk” (editorial, April 12) hits the nail on the head regarding Gov. Gray Davis’ proposed realignment of child care in the state. Here in Los Angeles we have about 105 early-education centers that will be destroyed if the proposal becomes a reality. That means thousands of needy children and their families will suffer because of this narrow-minded plan.

Being part of the California Department of Education ensures that our programs will be of the highest caliber. The education of our states’ youngest students will be at its finest. Under the current situation, teachers must be child development experts and must hold the proper credential issued by the state of California. These centers are vital to our young students and their families.
