NEW YORK — A 21-year-old actress died Friday from injuries suffered when she was shot in the face by her ex-boyfriend, who then killed himself, officials said.
Lyric Benson, who recently completed an episode of NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” was pronounced dead at a hospital. She was shot early Thursday in her apartment doorway with her mother nearby.
Ex-boyfriend Robert Ambrosino, 33, took his own life within seconds, police said.
Acquaintances said Benson ended the relationship weeks ago after a religious reawakening prompted her to rethink their living together.
Benson graduated from Yale University last year with a bachelor’s degree in theater studies.
She had been working as a hostess at a SoHo bistro, and appearing in increasingly high-profile acting jobs and advertising work.
She was featured in a current American Express advertisement and had a small part on an episode of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” according to her agents.
