Seung Su Han of Chino Hills and Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana of Long Beach teamed for a 4 and 3 mixed alternate shot victory Wednesday, helping the West team rally to within two points at the American Junior Golf Assn. Canon Cup matches in Sea Island, Ga.
Han also teamed with Anthony Kim of La Quinta for a 1-up victory in better ball matches earlier in the day. The East leads, 16-14, after it took a 10-5 lead on the first day. The title will be decided in singles matches today.
Running back Charles Burnley, who led Valencia with 1,631 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns last season, has not met NCAA academic qualifications and will not be able to accept a scholarship to play football at Oregon State, school spokesman Hal Cowan said.
The Vineyard Little League of Rancho Cucamonga defeated Wyoming’s representative, Laramie, 19-5, Tuesday at Haughton Stadium to improve its record to 2-1 in pool play at the Western Regional in San Bernardino.
Southern California’s representative defeated Loomis-Granite Bay Lakeside (Northern California), 9-0, on Saturday but lost to Henderson Green Valley (Nevada), 5-2, on Monday. Vineyard plays Chandler (Arizona) at 8 p.m. Friday.
Four of the five regional teams advance from pool play to the semifinals, which will take place at 5 and 8 p.m. on Sunday. The final, which will be televised by ESPN2, is 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner qualifies for the Little League World Series, Aug. 15-24, in Williamsport, Pa.
