* Kirk Kerkorian, the majority owner of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., began a tender offer for as many as 15 million more shares of the film studio at a 25% premium from when he first disclosed the plans. Kerkorian is offering $16 a share. MGM’s stock gained 38 cents to $14.65 on the NYSE. It closed at $12.84 on July 28, the day he announced his intentions to buy more shares.
* PNC Financial Services Group Inc. said it agreed to buy United National Bancorp, parent company of UnitedTrust Bank, for about $638 million, bolstering its presence in an affluent U.S. Northeast region.
