Van Nuys Lot Lacks Parking

Facing a shortage of parking and an anticipated flood of travelers over the Labor Day weekend, Van Nuys Flyaway officials are advising passengers to arrange to be dropped off rather than driving themselves to the park-and-ride lot.
The facility, which runs a shuttle bus service to Los Angeles International Airport, now has only about 800 parking spaces, less than half of the 2,000 spaces that were available before the start of a construction project earlier this year, said Richard French, a spokesman for Van Nuys Airport.
When the project is finished next spring, the facility will have about 2,800 parking spaces, larger restrooms, new concession stands and more attractive landscaping, airport officials said.
The facility, at 7610 Woodley Ave., provides parking for $4 a day and round-trip adult bus fares for $6.
During construction, authorities have established a temporary passenger drop-off site across the street from the shuttle service’s bus terminal.
