A 33-year-old man was on life support on Friday after being shot while driving on a busy Sylmar street.
Merced Ramirez Garcia of Sylmar was critically wounded by a gunshot to the head about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 15600 block of Roxford Street.
Police said they were baffled by the crime.
“We have no suspects, no witnesses, no motive and no leads,” said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lucy Diaz.
“That’s a pretty busy time and place,” said Diaz, adding that police were surprised that no witnesses had come forward nearly a day later. “You would think somebody would have seen something.”
Officers had responded to a report of gunfire about two blocks away, and while searching the neighborhood, they found Garcia’s red Honda sedan, which had crashed into a utility pole. Garcia was slumped behind the wheel.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call them at (818) 834-3115 or (877) 529-3855.
