Key Protestant Militant Killed in Attack

A senior Protestant militant and another man were killed in an ambush in Belfast, Northern Ireland, apparently as part of a feud within the outlawed pro-British Ulster Defense Assn.
John Gregg, 45, jailed in the 1980s for trying to kill Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, was slain as gunfire hit the taxi he was in. A fellow UDA member also was killed. Two men were arrested.
Police sources said they believed the attack was linked to a feud between the UDA and supporters of its ousted West Belfast leader, Johnny Adair, jailed last month.
