Tigers Put Higginson on DL

The Detroit Tigers put first baseman-outfielder Bobby Higginson, who has a pulled left hamstring, on the 15-day disabled list and recalled infielder Cody Ross from triple-A Toledo.
Higginson’s move was made retroactive to June 29. He is batting .235 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 74 games.

Right-hander Dave Veres, who went on the 15-day disabled list April 15 with tendinitis in his right shoulder, was activated by the Chicago Cubs, who sent right-hander Juan Cruz to triple-A Iowa.... Infielder Lou Merloni was taken off the 15-day disabled list by the San Diego Padres.
