Canadian-born ABC News “World News Tonight” anchor Peter Jennings has become a U.S. citizen.
Jennings, who was raised in Ottawa, said he was inspired by the Sept. 11 attacks and his travels around the country. The anchor has been working in the U.S. since 1964.
Jennings’ feelings began to crystallize a few years ago, he said in an interview Tuesday.
Although he became a citizen on May 30, he said he wanted to keep it mostly private, and he intends to retain his Canadian citizenship.
Jennings scored 100 on the citizenship test: “It would have been a little embarrassing if I hadn’t,” he quipped.
