A Gleam of Hope for Frankel
Bobby Frankel doesn’t have a starter in either the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup or the $400,000 Swaps, but the country’s leading trainer can pick up another graded stakes win today at Hollywood Park.
Frankel will send out You in the $250,000 A Gleam Invitational Handicap, a Grade II at seven furlongs.
A 4-year-old daughter of You and I who was purchased privately as a 2-year-old by Frankel for owner Ed Gann, You has won nine of 19. A victory today and she will surpass $2 million in earnings.
Second to Habibti in the 2001 Hollywood Starlet in her only previous race in Inglewood, You will have to beat five opponents -- Bear Fan, Brisquette, Cee’s Elegance, Affluent and Wild Tickle.
Affluent is a Grade I winner on turf and dirt for owner-breeder Janis Whitham and trainer Ron McAnally and the 5-year-old has won two of three at the A Gleam distance.

Race of the day: The fifth at Hollywood Park is a $40,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf, but it is significant because it begins a pick six with a guaranteed pool of $1 million. The pick six includes the Swaps and the Gold Cup.
One for the road: Sharp Impact will make his turf debut in the $150,000 Lexington at Belmont Park and the son of Siphon can wire his six opponents if he takes to the grass. A winner of three of five on the dirt, he faces a field devoid of speed in the 1 1/4-mile race. Sharp Impact also comes from a hot barn -- trainer Kiaran McLaughlin won with 17 of his first 36 starters at Belmont. The likely favorite is the Frankel-trained Urban King.
Exotically speaking: An exacta box in the fifth using Stocks Are Rising, Deploy Venture and Ran D Scott.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 5/164. Money: Previous day/meet total: $26.20/$873.80. Total money bet: $1,016.
