Park rangers continued Monday to investigate a weekend accident that left a climber dead.
Christopher Hampson, 25, of Breckenridge, Colo., was nearly 950 feet off the valley floor, climbing the Overhang Bypass Route of Lower Cathedral Peak about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, when he apparently fell, Ranger Deb Schweizer said Monday.
Hampson plunged 150 feet before being caught by his safety rope. He was badly injured and dangled for more than two hours while rescue crews climbed to reach him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
