School Bus Driver Pleads Guilty in Kidnapping

A school bus driver with a history of mental illness pleaded guilty to federal kidnapping charges for taking a group of Birdsboro children on a trip to suburban Washington, D.C.
Otto L. Nuss, 64, had stashed a loaded rifle and ammunition aboard the bus during the January 2002 trip, which touched off a six-hour manhunt. None of the 13 children was harmed.
Nuss’ plea bargain calls for a four-year prison sentence. Sentencing was set for September.
Authorities said Nuss had gone off his psychiatric medication on his doctor’s recommendation shortly before the trip.
