“Finding Nemo” is the big story of the early summer movie season. To date, the animated Disney/Pixar underwater adventure has grossed $228.5 million. Now in its fourth week of release, the film grossed $21.1 million, a decline of only 26% from the previous weekend.
Summer movie revenues are running neck and neck with last year’s grosses. Ticket sales totaled $1.67 billion between May 2, when “X2: X-Men United” made its debut, through last Sunday, compared with $1.66 billion for the same period in 2002. Meanwhile, year-to-date box-office revenues stand at $4.2 billion, a 3.3% decline from last year’s $4.36 billion, and attendance is off 7% for the year, according to the box-office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations Co.
