Drug Addicts Requesting Help May Face Delays

John J. Ryan, the county’s director of mental health, told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that drug addicts who want to enroll in treatment in the coming year may face a waiting list.
The Proposition 36 program allows certain nonviolent drug offenders to receive treatment rather than jail sentences. But many counties have been spending more on treatment than they have received from the state.
