Spector’s Bail Extended to Aug. 1

A judge Friday extended the bail for murder suspect and record producer Phil Spector to Aug. 1, an Alhambra Superior Court spokesman said.

The $1-million bail was set earlier this month to secure Spector’s release from jail after he was arrested Feb. 3 by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of killing actress Lana Clarkson at his hilltop mansion in the 1700 block of South Grand View Drive.

He was scheduled to appear in court Monday, but by Friday sheriff’s investigators still had not asked the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office for charges against Spector.

The bail bond agent, Chickie Leventhal of Chickie’s Bail Bonds, appeared before Judge Carlos A. Uranga on Spector’s behalf to request the extension. Spector, 62, was not present.

Authorities found Clarkson, 40, dead in the foyer of Spector’s home. She had been shot in the face, police said. The two were seen leaving the House of Blues in West Hollywood together about 2:30 a.m., hours before she was found dead. She was a hostess at the club.
