30 Villagers Slain in Run-Up to Elections

At least 30 villagers in Nigeria have been hacked or shot to death in fighting that has left entire communities cut off for days, local residents said.
The clash in Kadyal village, in the Kanam district of Plateau state, is the latest violence threatening national elections next month. More than 10,000 people have been killed in ethnic, religious and political violence in the nearly four years since an elected government took office.
