U.S. pop band postpones trip to Europe

The pop group Matchbox Twenty has postponed a European tour because of the war in Iraq, citing the State Department’s warning about the possibility of retaliatory actions being taken against Americans traveling abroad.
“Our concern is not only for the safety of our band and our crew but, more importantly, for the well-being of our fans, whom we certainly do not want to put at risk just by coming out to see us play,” lead singer Rob Thomas said.
The tour was to have begun in Koln, Germany, on Tuesday, with other stops planned in England, Scotland, France and Holland. The band said it would reschedule the dates later this year.
Lisa Marie Presley also called off a two-week promotional swing through Europe. And Tenacious D canceled a trip to Sweden, mtv.com reported.
