Quarterback Kellen Clemens returned from a first-half benching to lead Oregon to two late touchdowns and a 21-17 victory over California on Saturday at Eugene, Ore.
The game was delayed for 23 minutes when the lights on the south side of Autzen Stadium went out with 14:40 left in the game because of a control problem in the stadium’s computerized lighting system.
Clemens threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Tim Day with 4:19 left and led a drive that resulted in Terrence Whitehead’s one-yard touchdown run with 47 seconds left.
Keith Lewis’ interception with four seconds left sealed the win for Oregon, 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the Pacific 10. California is 5-6 and 3-3.
Clemens was replaced by Jason Fife in the second quarter after completing only one of his first six passes for 14 yards. Clemens finished nine-of-18 passing for 117 yards.
Stanford 38, Arizona State 27 -- J.R. Lemon pounded his way to a career-high 151 yards in 34 carries and scored two touchdowns at Stanford as the Cardinal (4-4, 2-4) avenged a 41-point loss to the Sun Devils (4-6, 1-5) last season.
The Cardinal had 467 total yards despite playing in a steady rain in the second half.
Lemon played in place of leading rusher Kenneth Tolon, who hurt his thumb in a pre-game drill and played only the first snap. Lemon’s rushing yardage was the most for a Stanford running back since 1997.
Arizona State couldn’t manage near the offensive production it had in a 65-24 rout of Stanford last season. Andrew Walter threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns but managed to complete only 23 of 53 passes.
