New President at Helm of Catholic University

Mary Lyons has taken the helm of the University of San Diego, becoming its third president since the Catholic college merged its men’s and women’s programs in 1972.
During a ceremony to mark the start of her term Sunday, Lyons called on the university’s students, faculty and staff to put greater emphasis on public service.
“This university can be a mediating influence on behalf of many of its own neighbors who are poor, sick or culturally or linguistically isolated,” she said.
