El Portal to offer ‘Catechism’ sequel

A sequel to the long-running “Late Nite Catechism” will be among the offerings at El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood next year as part of a new subscription series there to be called San Fernando Valley Playhouse.
The series of three solo shows and one with two actors will be produced by Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and offer some of the same productions that will be presented in the group’s series at Hermosa Beach Playhouse.
Maripat Donovan’s new solo, “Catechism II ... Sometimes We Feel Guilty Because We Are Guilty,” is scheduled for October.
A previous subscription series, with much larger casts, occupied El Portal for two years after the renovated theater reopened in 2000, but its sponsoring organization went belly up.
