Campbell’s Profit Jumps 31% on Sales

Campbell Soup Co. said profit for its fiscal first quarter increased 31% as shoppers bought more ready-to-serve soups including Soup at Hand.
Net income for the quarter ended Nov. 2 climbed to $211 million, or 51 cents a share, from $161 million, or 39 cents, a year earlier, the Camden, N.J.-based company said.
A weakening dollar helped Campbell, the maker of Pepperidge Farm cookies and Godiva chocolates, boost sales 12% to $1.91 billion.
Shares of Campbell rose 37 cents to $25.57 on the NYSE.
