Carriers Cancel Some 9/11 Flights

American Airlines, Lufthansa and British Airways are among carriers canceling some flights today because fewer people than usual were traveling on the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
European carriers said they were canceling U.S. flights because of a drop in demand among business travelers, while some U.S. airlines cut back because of a decline in sales for the day. U.S. airlines were reducing flights by as much as 5%, compared with 25% last year, said the Air Transport Assn., an industry group.
While AMR Corp.’s American Airlines, the world’s largest airline, is reducing some flights, UAL Corp.’s United Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc., the No. 2 and 3 airlines, said they weren’t cutting any.
