A Santa Paula teenager was injured early Wednesday when his car was struck by an oncoming vehicle as he attempted to make a left turn off California 126 in Piru, the California Highway Patrol said.
Franky Magana, 17, was turning north onto Main Street from an eastbound lane of the highway about 5 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Loran V. Breeland Jr., 38. The Ventura man was headed west at more than 65 mph before the collision, the CHP said.
Although Breeland was driving above the posted limit, his speed wasn’t considered reckless and no arrests were expected, according to CHP Officer Rex Mohun.
Magana was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia with a fractured right eye and a broken nose. Breeland, who broke his right heel and had cuts on his left leg, was treated at Santa Paula Hospital and released.
