Trusted Civil Servant

“A Major Player Prefers Backstage” (Sept. 15), about the chief legislative analyst for the city of Los Angeles, did a splendid job of making the case against term limits. Elected officials need time and experience to learn the ways of government; with term limits they must rely on unelected persons like Ronald Deaton.
As a former city employee, I knew Deaton and agree that he is fair and a true civil servant. But what about the next legislative analyst who will follow Deaton? The city may not be so fortunate next time.
