Ex-UMass Chief Loses Bid to Boost His Pension

Former University of Massachusetts President William M. Bulger lost a bid to boost his annual pension by $32,000.
He already qualifies for nearly $200,000, the biggest pension in state history. A state board refused to increase it by counting other benefits as income when calculating the pension.
Bulger, 69, resigned Sept. 1 under pressure from Gov. Mitt Romney and Atty. Gen. Thomas Reilly. They argued that Bulger had not done enough to assist authorities in the search for his fugitive mobster brother.
