Students Suspended for Assaulting Classmates

Thirty-three students attending the city’s public schools were suspended for sexually assaulting classmates in the first five months of the school year, a sharp increase from the same period last year, according to district documents.
The 33 suspensions stemmed from 25 separate incidents, five of which involved more than one student assailant.
The documents showed that two of the incidents took place at elementary schools, 17 at middle schools and six at high schools.
Most incidents involved inappropriate touching, according to Supt. Arlene Ackerman.
