Disney, Adelphia Extend Cable Deal

Walt Disney Co. said Adelphia Communications Corp. extended an agreement to carry Disney’s ABC Family, Disney Channel, SoapNet and Toon Disney cable-television networks.
The contract with Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Adelphia is effective immediately, Disney’s ABC Cable Networks Group said. Separately, Disney’s ESPN sports cable channel said that it expanded an agreement to let Adelphia carry three more ESPN networks -- ESPN Broadband, Spanish-language sports network ESPN Deportes and high-definition sports service ESPN HD.
Burbank-based Disney’s shares rose 55 cents to $26.50 on the NYSE. Adelphia shares fell 8 cents, or 11%, to 63 cents in over-the-counter trading.
