County Approves ID Card for Medical Pot Use

Supervisors approved creation of an identification card for Santa Barbara County’s estimated 200 medical marijuana patients.
The board voted Monday to instruct the Public Health Department to start work on the program.
“The bottom line for me is: People are suffering,” Supervisor Susan Rose said. “This is a serious human need here. This system works elsewhere. We’re not the first people to do this.”
The vote came after testimony from ID card proponents, including Mark Bohnett, who told the board his 18-year-old son needs marijuana to tone down his Tourette’s syndrome and various violent behaviors.
