Court Won’t Revisit Assisted Suicide Ruling

A federal appeals court has declined to reconsider its support of a law that allows Oregon doctors to prescribe lethal doses of medication to terminally ill patients who want to die, according to an order made public in San Francisco.
A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in May that a Bush administration directive seeking to stop Oregon doctors from helping the terminally ill commit suicide was unlawful and unenforceable.
In the new ruling, the court declined an administration petition for a larger panel to reconsider the case.
