A Neiman Marcus department store will be added to Westfield Shoppingtown Topanga as part of a $300-million upgrade of the Canoga Park mall, the owners announced Tuesday.
The store will be 120,000 square feet, according to Westfield Group, a Sydney, Australia-based company that owns 26 malls in California. It will be the fourth Neiman Marcus store in Southern California and the 36th in the country for the Dallas-based fashion specialty retailer.
In addition to the department store, mall improvements will include at least one more anchor store, 100 new shops, restaurants, a cafe-style food pavilion and three new covered parking structures. Existing anchors include Nordstrom, Sears and Robinsons-May.
The expansion will add about 600,000 square feet of retail space to the existing center, bringing the total to 1.6 million square feet. Construction is expected to begin in the spring for an anticipated fall 2006 grand opening. Neiman Marcus is scheduled to open in spring 2008.
Westfield previously announced that it would spend more than $1 billion to upgrade seven of its California malls and recently completed a $113-million expansion of Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita in Arcadia.
