Italian tenor is in intensive care

From Associated Press

Italian tenor Giuseppe di Stefano remained in intensive care Monday at a hospital on the coast of Kenya following an attack by unknown assailants last week.

Di Stefano and his wife were attacked in their car last Tuesday as they drove away from their villa in Diani, about 270 miles southeast of Nairobi, said Alex Rono, the senior police official in Coast Province. He declined to describe their injuries or to provide any other details.

Di Stefano, 83, is famous for his duets with Maria Callas. Now retired, the singer was a forebear to such tenors as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo.
