A Lake Elsinore man who had taken a hostage was fatally shot by Riverside County sheriff’s deputies Monday after he refused repeated orders to drop his weapon, authorities said.
Deputies were summoned to a residence in the 28000 block of Mountain Avenue at 3:13 p.m. Monday, where they say a man had taken a hostage.
The man fired at the deputies and fled in a vehicle, driving to a nearby dirt road, authorities said. Confronted by deputies, he allegedly pointed his shotgun toward them. The deputies opened fire, striking him several times.
His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
