Gillian Murphy
Ballerina
A powerful technician, Murphy will be dancing the dual starring roles in American Ballet Theatre’s complete “Swan Lake” on the PBS “Dance in America” series in the spring or summer. She will also reportedly be featured when the company presents the complete “Giselle” and an all-Tchaikovsky gala at the Music Center from April 27 to May 1.
Wayne McGregor
Choreographer/artistic director
McGregor’s troupe, Random Dance, is a British modern-dance company celebrated for multimedia efforts -- including “Nemesis,” which will have its U.S. premiere Jan. 28 in UCLA’s Royce Hall (returning the next night). Add his choreography to video imagery, animatronics and new music and you have a futuristic vision, McGregor-style.
Titus Fotso
Dancer/choreographer
A member of the Bamileke tribe in his native West African country of Cameroon, the 6-foot-7 Fotso has performed there and in Senegal, Zaire, the Congo and Ivory Coast. A producer, songwriter and singer too, he’ll be appearing in an African gala Feb. 19 at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Culver City. He’ll also be teaching workshops at the Allen studios.
