Police converged Wednesday night on the Van Nuys apartment of Paul Alan Ott, the entertainment industry grip suspected of murder, kidnapping and sexual assault, after several people thought they saw him climb in through a window.
SWAT officers were en route to a five-unit complex in the 7100 block of Costello Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Residents of the complex and some adjoining homes were evacuated.
Scores of officers surrounded the apartment, some using bullhorns to order Ott to come out with his hands up.
Ott, 35, is wanted on suspicion of murder in the death of Edith I. Mejia, 42.
He is also wanted on suspicion of kidnapping and sexually assaulting another woman.
Police described Ott as 5 feet 9, with stubble on his shaved head. He has a goatee and mustache and may be driving a gray sedan. He has numerous tattoos. “Otter” and a devil’s face are tattooed on one arm.
