Reopened Center Seeks New Name

The Northeast Valley Multipurpose Senior Center in Pacoima, closed for five months due to flooding, celebrated its reopening with a reception Thursday.
Staff members at the center, also known as the Pacoima Senior Center, are requesting the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission formally rename the city-owned building after the late Alicia Broadous-Duncan, said interim director Patricia Austin. Broadous-Duncan, a longtime minister and advocate for the elderly, died in November.
The rupture of a sewer line in June forced center activities to be moved to other locations. Following extensive repairs, activities resumed at the center in November.
