A minimum-security trusty walked away Friday from a jail work crew outside the county sheriff’s office in Santa Ana, officials said.
Luis Duarte, 21, of Santa Ana was reported missing about 10:30 a.m.
Duarte had been convicted of drunk driving that had caused bodily injury.
He was scheduled for release in September but now faces up to five years in prison if convicted of escape, according to a sheriff’s official.
Duarte was described as Latino, 5 feet 7 and 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt, a blue denim shirt and blue jeans.
