A bicyclist died Sunday morning of head injuries after crashing into a motorboat being towed by a car in Newport Beach, police said.
Ton Lee, 74, of Lake Forest suffered fatal injuries about 10:35 a.m. and was pronounced dead at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, authorities said.
Witnesses told police that Lee was going about 15 mph with his head down on Backbay Drive west of Jamboree Road when he hit the boat.
The motorist who was towing the boat had stopped at the southern curb of Backbay Drive to wait in line to launch his craft at the Newport Dunes Resort.
The driver’s name was not released. No citation has been issued, but an investigation is continuing.
