American Express’ Profit Rises 15%

American Express Co. posted a 15% rise in second-quarter profit, thanks to a pickup in the use of credit cards and charge cards.
The New York-based financial services company reported record-high net income of $876 million, or 68 cents a share, up from $762 million, or 59 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 14% to $7.258 billion.
American Express shares rose 79 cents to $48.90 on the NYSE.
