Execution Sought in Teen’s Death

The Ventura County district attorney’s office will seek the death penalty for a 38-year-old Oak View man accused of raping and killing an Oxnard teenager.
Douglas Dworak was arrested in September in the death of 18-year-old Crystal Hamilton, whose body was found April 22, 2001, on the beach south of Mussel Shoals. Hamilton had been visiting friends in Ventura the day she disappeared.
Dworak’s arrest came after semen found during Hamilton’s autopsy was compared with a national database of DNA profiles, authorities said. His profile had been entered into the database after he was convicted of rape in Napa County in 1987. He served nine years in prison.
He pleaded not guilty after he was indicted by the Ventura County Grand Jury in April.
His trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 9.
