Checkpoint to Catch Abalone Poachers Set

Game wardens will staff a checkpoint this weekend in Mendocino County to catch abalone poachers.
The Department of Fish and Game said the checkpoint Saturday would be somewhere along Highway 20. The action is the first of the season by wardens and is timed to coincide with a low tide, when harvesting abalone is popular.
