Janssen, UCLA Stop Oklahoma

Casey Janssen and Kevin Brophy held Oklahoma to four hits and Bill Susdorf and Wes Whisler each had two RBIs to lead UCLA to a 9-1 victory over Oklahoma on Friday in an NCAA Division I regional in front of 7,792 at SBC Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
Janssen (10-4) allowed two hits and struck out seven in eight innings. The senior right-hander is the first Bruin to post 10 wins in a season since Josh Karp in 2000.
Third-seeded UCLA (34-27) will play top-seeded Florida (41-20) today in a winner’s bracket game. The Gators beat Central Connecticut State, 12-1.
Jeff Corsaletti drove in six runs and Justin Hoyman (11-1) gave up six hits and one run in eight innings to lead the Gators.
Second-seeded Oklahoma (37-23) plays Central Connecticut State (41-16-1) in an elimination game.
Long Beach State 4, St. John’s 3 -- Steve Velazco’s single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Brad Davis to lift the 49ers past the Red Storm in a first-round game at Stanford and give them their first victory in eight games.
Long Beach (37-19) plays top-seeded Stanford (45-12), which defeated Nevada Las Vegas, 10-4, today at 3 p.m.
Closer Neil Jamison (3-3) recorded two outs in the ninth to get the victory.
Long Beach State starter Jason Vargas gave up three runs and three hits, including two homers, in seven innings. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.
P.J. Antoniato and Eddie Schultz homered for the Red Storm, which lost in its first appearance in the NCAA tournament in seven years.
St. John’s (36-22) will play Nevada Las Vegas (37-23) in an elimination game today at 11 a.m.
Arizona 7, UC Irvine 3 -- Richard Mercado drove in three runs and Derek Decater and Jordan Brown homered to lead the Wildcats at South Bend, Ind.
The Anteaters (34-22-1) will play Notre Dame (49-11) today in an elimination game. The Irish lost to Kent State, 2-1. Arizona (31-24-1) plays the Golden Flashes (36-25).
Koley Kolberg (9-6) gave up two earned runs in six innings for Arizona. Anteater ace Brett Smith (8-5) gave up eight hits and six earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
