Panel to Scrutinize Fees to Sheriff’s Department

From Times Staff Reports

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to form a committee to study fees paid by cities that contract with the Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement.

The county’s budget office recommended that the board order the sheriff to propose “additional cost recovery mechanisms” for use of forensic services, aviation, special investigation teams and a training center in the next fiscal year.

But Sheriff Bob Doyle and supervisors instead voted to form a committee to study the matter.
