From Times Wire Reports
Child-care workers who look after about 50,000 children walked off the job in an effort to pressure New York City to raise their pay.
The scheduled three-day strike left about 350 large day-care centers closed or short-staffed, and forced many working parents to scramble to find baby sitters.
The day-care workers, who are employed by centers that serve many poor families and are partially subsidized by the city, have not had a contract in more than four years and have not received a raise in 3 1/2 years.
