Van Cliburn winner: A composer and porcelain dealer from Sherman Oaks has won the Van Cliburn Foundation’s 4th International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs in Fort Worth. Paul Anthony Romero was among 72 contestants, limited to those older than 35 who don’t earn their living teaching or playing the piano. Romero was awarded $2,000, tickets to the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, a recital in Washington, D.C., and a pair of custom spurs.
