Three people were killed and six injured when they were struck by lightning at a park in Buford, about 35 miles northeast of Atlanta.
The nine were on a walkway connecting a beach to a parking lot when lightning hit a tree at Buford Dam Park on Lake Lanier, a spokesman for the Gwinnett Police Department said.
Two men and a woman died instantly, Gwinnett fire spokesman Thomas Rutledge said.
Six others were taken to hospitals; none suffered life-threatening injuries, hospital officials said.
